It’s been about a decade since I’ve had a proper snowy winter. I didn’t realize just how much I missed getting bundled up to wander empty snow covered streets. Or sitting inside watching it slowly blanket the yard. The snow made the fireplace feel a little bit warmer and Lane a little snugglier.

I’ll miss it when it’s finally gone. Even though I’m looking forward to spring. Just like I looked forward to this winter. Forward to fall. Forward to summer…

Looking back, I probably could have taken more advantage. This wasn’t the year I got back into snowboarding. Or checked out the other side of the fence with a skiing lesson. There wasn’t a night in chilly mountain side yurt. I never made it out to the middle of a white-washed Valles Caldera.

I did strap on a pair of snowshoes for the very first time. It’s even easier than it looks. It’s just like walking. Only more deliberate. Tighter, considered steps seem to be best. You find a rhythm and walk right into it. Drifting along with the snow. Mostly alone… except for the occasional cross country skier or free riding snowboarder. You feel as though you can go anywhere.

Next winter, I’m ready for more.
