Writing that road trip post got me flipping through a bunch of old pictures from a hike to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite.
They were all taken with a Canon PowerShot something–or–another. I’m pretty sure it was under 2 megapixels. It was tiny too. If it hadn’t succumbed to sand from the beach, it would be close to 10 years old now.
I can’t stop looking at the photos.
There’s something attractive in the almost faded look of the low pixel count mixed with the dense texture of the landscape.
At least there is to me. I can’t quite put my finger on it though…



Maybe it’s just a case of digital nostalgia.
I carried that little camera everywhere–Always shooting pictures. It was an important part of getting to know my new home in San Francisco, in my new state of California.
I did the same thing after moving to Santa Fe.
Maybe one day I’ll look back on those blurry, oddly colored iPhone photos the same way.
